
Dr. Stanley Maloy is one of the world's leading microbiologists and bacterial geneticists. He is currently the Dean of the College of Sciences at San Diego State University in addition to having recently served as the President of the American Society of Microbiologists (ASM). During his 30 year career as a scientist, Dr. Maloy has published over 90 scientific articles ranging from topics on bacterial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, and host specificity in addition to numerous microbiology and bacterial genetics textbooks. In addition, Dr. Maloy has received numerous scientific achievement awards, given hundreds of invited lectures, holds a seat on numerous journal editorial boards, has served as the Chair of several NIH study sections, and has been a grant reviewer for the NIH, NSF, USDA, NAS and AHA. Dr. Maloy has been involved with Vaxiion since 2000 and his expertise in microbiology and bacterial genetics has proven to be invaluable to the further development of Vaxiion's minicell platform.
Dr. Lee Ellis is an internationally recognized surgical oncologist, researcher, and leader in the field of translational oncology. He holds several positions at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC), including Professor of Surgery and Cancer Biology; Director, Metastasis Research Center; William C. Liedtke Jr. Chair in Cancer Research; Director of the Colorectal Cancer Translational Research Program, and Chair, Ad Interim, Department of Cancer Biology. Dr. Ellis has a clinical practice in Surgical Oncology, focused on patients with colorectal cancer and liver metastases. Dr. Ellis has established a reputation for expertise in the areas of angiogenesis and growth factor receptor biology in gastrointestinal malignancies, having authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications, 100 invited reviews and editorials, three books, and 30 book chapters. He has served on numerous NIH study sections and is a consultant to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where he recently completed his tenure on the NCI GI Cancers Steering Committee, and still serves as a member of the NCI Colorectal Cancer Task Force. Dr. Ellis serves on 8 editorial boards, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Research and Clinical Cancer Research (Senior Editor). Dr. Ellis has been a plenary discussant at the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s (ASCO) annual meeting twice in the last five years, and has served in leadership roles in the major cancer societies including ASCO, American Association for Cancer Research, Keystone Scientific Symposia, and the Society for Surgical Oncology. He was chairman of the 2007 GI Cancers Symposium and was co-chair of the 2009 and 2011 AACR annual meetings. In 2011, he served as co-chair of the AACR Annual Education Committee. Dr. Ellis is on the Education Committee for the 2011 ASCO Meeting where he heads the Tumor Biology track.
